You mean its already JUNE ?
Time flies when your having fun. May came and went with a bang from our 1st annual west coast Cinco de Mayo party to a blowout in Cozumel, life is good in the summertime. That was downtime, then I was shooting like a cowboy, a crazy month for portraits and mothers day with a group of 13. Family portraits are an interesting thing. As I begin to feel more and more comfortable nudging families beyond the classic sitting poses I find we are achieving fresh new ways to paint the family. Its more about moments, intimacy and timing. I came across an ad for a fellow photographer (who does beautiful work I might add) calling herself "organic" I scoffed, an inner giggle thinking the use of the word a little inappropriate for photography. Turning to the dictionary I discovered way at the bottom #14 Fine art: of or pertaining to the shapes or forms in a work of art that are of irregular contour and seem to resemble or suggest forms found in nature.
Still stretching. Technically all portrait photography is organic as we are organic by nature as humans, living, breathing - and more importantly in the scope of images; remembering. Removing backdrops and studio lighting begins to bring us back to the basic human story. Family, home, - memories. I like to think I help people remember. 50 years from now, when all the amazing children I have photographed are watching their grandchildren - and going through old DVDs to transfer the images onto whatever new media is circulating, perhaps they will pause. Perhaps, they will sigh, a pause for a favorite long gone toy, a loved mother, or a day in the sunshine and I will have made that moment just a little more golden.
