1st Quarter Speculations

As a small business owner, I spend a lot of time calculating - Sales tax, regular tax, estimates and invoices. I find it surprising that my degree in photography required so few math classes. My pre calc I took in high school was sufficient to save me from math for the rest of my life. Now I find a class or two in business would have been really helpful, maybe it could have been titled, "the other 90% of being an artist". I still adore being behind the lens the most, but pre-planning is a close second. Yesterday in preparation for my trip to the Caribbean I finished up sales tax and found that Q4 of 2007 was my best to date. Not too shabby. Q1 for 2008 is shaping up pretty well and I figure that since the government is always projecting numbers it might be fun to do a little projecting myself. So here's my crystal ball, wait better yet let me grab the magic 8 ball.

Will 2008 surpass 2007? M8B "positively"

Will I be selected for PDN's 30? M8B "very likely"

Will I land an advertising campaign? M8B "looks like yes"

Complete a fine art project? M8B "unlikely"

Looks like I'll be a little too busy for personal work. I guess I'll have to project that into 2009. You know I can see why Washington uses this method its really efficient.

In other concrete financial news I was highlighted in Provident Credit Unions' January newsletter as a poster kid for Zopa social lending. I'm certain that little publicity bumped me up a notch or two and helped me land 11 supporters on the site. The coolest thing to me is that even though I told all my friends and family about it, I don't even know any of the folks who selected me. Its really a testament to the process.
