Ladies in Charge

For years, I was seeking out women whom I could approach to photograph in a corporate setting and now - 2009 - all of my corporate portraits thus far have been women. Women in charge and seeking great imagery - I love it. Its as if all the times I've said to someone how important a good portrait is finally made its way into the public thought. I really enjoy knowing that I may be contributing (be it small) to the advancement of these womens careers. Regardless, I enjoy helping folks look their best.

Come out come out wherever you are...

I can't believe another year has passes and big changes have happened here at the studio. I've been teaching part time - a fun and engaging experience for me. Although I', only in the classroom a few hours a day, the workload has been enormous and that coupled with my ongoing work has left my blog and my thoughts a little neglected. The good news is that the freedom a base income has given me has freed me up from all that crazy marketing and now I'm able to take on only jobs that are appealing and worth my time. No more devaluing myself to pay my camera lease. Its a nice place to be.

I just put the final touches on my last project with Taproot for STAND against domestic violence to bed (See above) and I'm looking forward to their big celebration on the 22nd of January to toot my own horn.

Bayphoto asked to use my card designs again this year - that 2 and counting and I know they produce a lot of work so it is an honor. We'll see if they cough up any compensation... TBD

Here's to a new year full of hope and dreams of staying recession proof.

Someone stole my summer

Holy Smokes, its almost September. For the past 10 years that hasn't really meant more then "time to put away the white," but now, with a daughter beginning kindergarten, and preparing myself for teaching I have a feeling that these last few dwindling days of summer will take on renewed significance. It was a lazy summer, a gee we didn't do a whole lot kind of summer. We went to the beach. I spent a lot of time at the gym. (not sure where the results are)

Now, on the two weeks my darlings are visiting their grandparents, I'm spending hours in seminars for new teachers - grading, tardies, curriculum, WASC, InClass, SASi - these are my new vocabulary. Coworkers, colleagues, intelligent adults to chat with. Next Tuesday will introduce students to the equation and the brew will began to blend all the flavors for a hopefully magnificent outcome.

Luckily I still have some old recipes that I know are sure to please, as I imagine the "teacher" recipe is going to have few versions and spice variations before it reaches perfection. Here's a view from an executive portrait yesterday. The more of these shoots I serve up the more telling they become. I find that in feeling comfortable in my own skin, it helps my clients look their best in theirs. So long summer
